Just saw the movie Ideachi Kalpana....and now I know why some of the marathi movies have still not made their mark in this mecca of cinemas - Mumbai. The story idea has been lifted off from the '84 film, Lakhon ki Baat starring Farooq sheikh and Anita Raj about the hero being accidentally hit by the leading lady and his brother in law trying to capitalize on the result.
Fair enough, we have run out of original ideas and want to go for the time tested plots which would atleast stand to gain comerically. But why oh why does the director/producer/story writer(!!)/singer want to potray himself as a 30 year old and a lead in the movie. Did all the youngsters vanish from marathi cinema (and if they have - this movie gives a good enough reason why). He doesnt just come across as the main lead but as a character actor and a character actor again...nope this isnt a typo error, we see him thrice as if once wasnt a torture already. Though the storyline gives ample opportunity for laughter and comic situations, the director cannot bring himself to get out of the frame or even give the story a chance to develop....making the second actor i.e. Ashok Saraf take the burden of entertaining the audience.
And entertain he does, Saraf shows what it takes to be a senior actor and is able to carry the entire movie on his able shoulders. If ever any laughter is managed its due to his capacity to emote and evoke responses with or without dialogues. He is also incidentally the only one paired with an actress his age. The other two have heroines probably half their ages...Rajnikant anyone?
Note to the director/writer/producer/singer: With all dues respect Sir, no matter what they say about your age, it's time you hand in your 'lead' baton to youngsters. Slick marketing and production do not make a movie, old fashioned ideals of a storyline and acting still stand the test of time and those of the audiences
